About 'Public Initiative for School Heads' and Teachers' Holistic Advancement'

NISHTHA is the largest teachers’ training program of its kind in the world.

Objective: To motivate and equip teachers to encourage and foster critical thinking in students.

Teachers will get awareness and develop their skills on various aspects related to:

Improvement in learning outcomes of the students
  • Creation of an enabling and enriching inclusive classroom environment
  • Teachers are trained as first level counselors to be alert and responsive to the social, emotional and psychological need of students
  • Teachers are trained to use Art as pedagogy leading to increased creativity and innovation among students
  • Teachers are trained to develop and strengthen personal-social qualities of students for their holistic development
  • Creation of healthy and safe school environment
  • Integration of ICT in teaching-learning and assessment
  • Develop stress-free School Based Assessment focused on development of learning competencies
  • Teachers adopt Activity Based Learning and move away from rote learning to competency based learning
  • Teachers and School Heads become aware of new initiatives in school education
  • Transformation of the heads of schools for providing academic and administrative leadership in the schools for fostering new initiatives
The Department of School Education and Literacy has launched a National Mission to improve learning outcomes at the elementary level through an Integrated Teacher Training Programme called NISHTHA under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Samagra Shiksha in 2109-20.

NISHTHA is a capacity building programme for "Improving Quality of School Education through Integrated Teacher Training". It aims to build competencies among all the teachers and school principals at the elementary stage. NISHTHA is the world's largest teachers' training programme of its kind.The basic objective of this massive training programme is to motivate and equip teachers to encourage and foster critical thinking in students. The initiative is first of its kind wherein standardized training modules are developed at national level for all States and UTs.

Aim: To build the capacities of around 42 lakh participants,

Covering all teachers and heads of schools at the elementary level in all Government schools,

Faculty members of State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs),

Block Resource Coordinators and Cluster Resource Coordinators in all States and UTs.

Implementation: Training will be conducted directly by 33120 Key Resource Persons (KRPs) and State Resource Persons (SRP) identified by the State and UTs, who will in turn be trained by 120 National Resource Persons identified from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), etc.

States and UTs have an option to contextualize the training modules and use their own material and resource persons also, keeping in view the core topics and expected outcomes of NISHTHA.

The prominent features of the programme are activity based modules including in-built continuous feedback mechanism, online monitoring and support system, training need and impact analysis (Pre and Post training).

A Mobile App and Learning Management System (LMS) based on MOODLE (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) have been developed by NCERT.

LMS will be used for registration of Resource Persons and Teachers, dissemination of resources, training gap and impact analysis, monitoring, mentoring and measuring the progress online.

Nishtha Training Module for all Primary Teachers

Currently NISHTHA training is planned by the Department of Education on the Diksha platform. Registration was to be processed by October 4. The study of the module will start from tomorrow i.e. 5th October.

A detailed program has been given to the primary teachers of Gujarat state. Information on which modules to complete by which date is also given by the circular. Teachers who have completed 18 modules of NISTHA training last year do not have to undergo this training. Teachers retiring on October 31 also do not have to undergo this training.

Nishtha Training Module

1 to 3 modules have to be completed by 5 to 10 October. The first module will start from 5th October. This module can be viewed by going to the course in the Diksha application. Click on Join to join this module.
The module will have to be read from 7.30 to 10.30. You will have to watch the Baysag broadcast from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and work from 12 to 12.30 p.m.
