Children who have not completed 6 years of age on 1st June cannot be given admission in first standard

The Joint Director of Education instructed all DEOs to report to primary schools in writing

Atul Tiwari / Ahmedabad: From now on, the rule of admission of children in Gujarat has changed. Children who have not reached 6 years of age will not get admission in the first standard from the academic year starting from the new year. The Joint Director of Education of the state has written a letter to all the district education officers instructing them to inform all the primary schools about this rule. A child who has not completed the sixth year on June 1 will not be admitted to the first standard. According to the circular of the Joint Director of Education, the child will be required to complete 6 years of age on June 1 in the academic year 2023-24 when he completes pre-primary education and takes admission in Std. Admission will not be granted if the child is under 6 years of age on June 1.

Currently, the admission process has started in private schools. There are many students who enter Std-1. Then the rule for admission of standard 1 in Gujarat has changed. The Department of Education has announced that the rules for admission in Std-1 have changed from 2023. According to which only a child who completes 6 years on June 1 will get admission in Std-1. Now the parents who are going for admission should take special care of this matter.

The Department of Education has once again informed all the District Education Officers to inform all the schools about the notification so that there is a conflict between the parents and the schools in case of admission of a child, no conflict, no parent has to send his child to study in a single class again.

The Education Department of the Government of Gujarat had issued a notification on 31st January 2020 disclosing the new rules under RTI Rules. In which it was stated that from the new academic year, a child will get admission in Std-1 only when he has completed 6 years. Otherwise the child will not be considered eligible for admission.

It is to be mentioned that the children were admitted by the private school violating the haphazard rules. With this in mind, this circular has been issued by the Department of Education. Just last December, the education department issued a circular clarifying this. That is, in the current year 2023, only the child who has completed 6 years will get admission in Std-1. That is, during the academic years 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23, if a child has completed 5 years on June 1 of that academic year, he / she will be admitted in Std-1.
